Spectators, participants and athletes* of indoor sports and co-curricular activities are now required to wear masks following an update Sept. 1 by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH). The directive applies to all indoor co-curricular activities (sports, band, choirs and clubs) that occur on a school site whether or not they are during school hours. These guidelines are supported by the Fresno County Department of Public Health (FCDPH) and California Interscholastic Federation (CIF).
Additionally, all spectators attending games or performances, regardless of vaccination status, must now wear a mask effective immediately.
*The CDPH sports testing guidance references sports where wearing a mask during play has been determined to pose a choking hazard by a well-recognized health authority, such as the American Academy of Pediatrics (at this time, sports currently identified by the American Academy of Pediatrics are competitive cheer, gymnastics while on an apparatus, swimming, diving, water polo and wrestling). This applies when scrimmaging and during competition season. Due to this choking hazard, these sports have the option to conduct these activities outdoors or perform weekly screening testing.
There are no changes in guidance to outdoor sports.
Clovis Unified School District follows CDPH mandates and will continue to respond with updates to health and safety protocols as needed.
