Robotics

Pre-requisite: Application required to register

Robotics is a year long elective. This course is designed for students who are interested in the FLLC (FIRST LEGO League Challenge) and computer programming. This course will incorporate the study and programming of robots, design of Lego robots, programming of robots and robotics competitions. Through Robotics, students learn programming language, basic physics, and engineering principles, sportsmanship, team cooperation, critical thinking, and problem solving skills. Participating in this course will offer students an opportunity to try-out for our competitive robotics team.  There are a limited number of spots available in this course so all applications will be reviewed by course advisors and students will be notified whether or not they have been selected for the course. Priority will be given to students who have previously completed 1 year of computer science at Kastner/1 semester of interactive animation & games at Kastner intermediate. 7th grade students that want to take robotics as an elective must have prior FIRST LEGO League and coding experience.  Please complete the application and list your prior experience with FLL. Application will be administered by counselors during enrollment windows.

What is FIRST LEGO League Challenge?

Engaging Youth in STEM Exploration

Participants gain real-world problem-solving experiences through a guided, global robotics program using LEGO® technology, helping today’s students, families, and educators build a better future together.

Friendly competition is at the heart of Challenge, as teams of students ages 9-16* engage in research, problem-solving, coding, and engineering - building and programming a LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Prime robot that navigates the missions of a robot game. They also participate in a research project to identify and solve a relevant real-world problem.

The First Lego League Challenge logo features a red and blue design.
